30 Years of Upgrades
I'm upgrading my main computer again this year. This year marks 30 years of having my own computer -- for gaming, programming, and all the other things we use computers for -- and I thought some of you might find it interesting to see how my main computer has changed over time. The further back in time we go, the less detail I have on what my main system was, but I still kept reasonably good track. I've had 10 notable upgrades in those 30 years, and I've put them into a table below. So without further ado, I give you 30 Years of Upgrades:
Some notes:
I had temporarily been using an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti for my 2023 upgrade prior to the AMD Radeon 7800 XT release. The higher PassMark scores below were for the 3060 Ti. I did run a single pass of 3D Graphics Mark on the 7800 XT and it achieved a score of 29,333.
My decision this year to use a Lancool II case instead of the newer Lancool III was just a personal preference; I like the older one better.
Below are PassMark benchmark results for my old PC (2018 build) and my new PC (2023 build w/ 3060 Ti) with and without XMP enabled.
